I’m not sure what it says about me, but I am really excited about this new expenses tab in Plannuh. I know, I probably need a hobby.
After reviewing thousands of marketing plans and budgets, I’ve developed a much deeper appreciation for the humble marketing expense. This latest release of Plannuh provides a dedicated tab in the application for efficiently managing the details of your marketing expenses.
The atomic particle of your marketing plan
An expense is like the atomic particle in your marketing plan. And like any nerd would know, atomic particles contain lots of subatomic particles that describe attributes and relationships.
You can see from the attached graphic that marketing expenses can contain lots of interesting details:
Our new expenses tab was designed to accommodate the details when you want to track them, while allowing you to quickly capture the basic information for more straightforward expenses. And by tracking your original expense forecast along with the actual amount spent, you steadily improve your expense forecasting over time.
A view for the expense manager persona
From its earliest releases, we found that CMOs were really excited about our interactive dashboards that helped them achieve better visibility into their budget commitments over time, improved alignment with their goals, and made them more agile.
But those CMOs are typically not the ones managing the details of individual expenses. When we asked those marketing managers what they wanted, it was quite consistent: they needed a fast and efficient interface to manage their expenses. They liked the speed and familiarity of their spreadsheets, but they struggled tracking the details they needed in a flat Excel table.
A familiar, fast way to manage your expenses - with a little bit of magic
Enter the Plannuh Expenses Tab. We started with familiarity and speed. Not only did we want to make sure that the basic table layout looked spreadsheet-ish (if that is a word…), but we wanted it to perform like a spreadsheet with fast response times and great support for keyboard commands.
In addition to those table stakes, we wanted to add a little bit of Plannuh magic. For example, you can easily manage recurring expenses, track detailed data like PO numbers, vendor names, and GL codes (to make your finance team happy…) You can also keep detailed notes within each expense record so you have all the data in one place.
And as you enter and manage your expenses, they automatically feed you Campaign, Goal and Expense Bucket data, as well as all the useful dashboard visualizations, so the whole team has a single source of truth where the data only needs to be entered once.
